After five long days, what better way to complete the Ring than a relaxed traverse of lovely Colle Mitra, ‘Sulmona’s Mountain’, from Pettorano sul Gizio back to Pacentro. A relatively easy stage of contrasting halves – a stiff, pathless climb from Pettorano to Colle Mitra followed by a gentle descent to the valley floor and carefree amble across flat fields back to Pacentro. A day, of course, of wonderful views but shorter and lower and with the final few kilometres quite a contrast to any other part of the circuit!
